I’ve taught IGCSE English for ten years, both in school and through private tuition. Most of my students need help turning good ideas into organised, convincing answers, so we spend plenty of time planning before writing. I particularly enjoy teaching literary analysis and unseen texts. Closer to the exams, I introduce timed responses and detailed marking so students know exactly where their marks are coming from.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring IGCSE English for five years and probably enjoy teaching creative writing more than I should. I like taking an ordinary description and seeing how much we can improve it through better verbs, sentence choices and imagery. Reading lessons are quite conversational because I want students to explain what they notice before I step in. We also practise past-paper questions regularly, especially when exams are getting close.

My background is in journalism, where writing clearly and editing ruthlessly were everyday requirements. I moved into education seven years ago and now specialise in IGCSE English tuition. I’m particularly useful for students who write too much but struggle to answer the actual question. We work on selecting evidence, organising paragraphs and cutting unnecessary material. I’m a qualified English teacher with twelve years of classroom experience and extensive experience preparing IGCSE students for examinations. Literature is my main interest, particularly poetry and drama, although I teach the complete course. My sessions involve close annotation, discussion and written practice rather than long explanations from me. When marking essays, I focus on two or three changes at a time so the feedback remains genuinely useful.

I started tutoring while studying linguistics and quickly became interested in why some students can explain an idea perfectly aloud but struggle to put it on paper. Before teaching, I worked in publishing and spent a lot of time editing articles, reports and longer manuscripts. That experience still shapes the way I teach IGCSE English. I’ve tutored for eight years and particularly enjoy helping students improve essay structure and written style. Sometimes we’ll take one paragraph and rewrite it several ways to see which version communicates the idea best. Past papers come later, once the underlying writing is secure.
