I’ve taught IGCSE English for nine years, both in the classroom and through private tuition. Most of my students come to me wanting help with analytical writing, so we spend time looking closely at extracts and turning good observations into well-developed paragraphs. I’m quite particular about using evidence properly. As exams get closer, I introduce timed responses and past papers so students become comfortable planning and writing under pressure.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring IGCSE English for five years and I especially enjoy working on creative and descriptive writing. I’m not a fan of giving students a fixed paragraph formula for everything. Instead, we look at strong examples, discuss why certain choices work and then try them in their own writing. I also do plenty of reading-comprehension practice, particularly with students who understand a text well but struggle to put their ideas into precise answers.

Before becoming a full-time tutor, I worked as an English teacher for more than a decade. I now specialise in IGCSE English, with much of my teaching centred on reading comprehension and extended writing. I encourage students to annotate texts carefully before attempting a response, as this usually improves both structure and detail. With Year 11 students, I regularly mark timed papers and then use the following lesson to go through exactly where marks were missed.
